Manage Your Time, Don't Let It Manage You

Everyone's been asking me like how do I
maintain being so active online and able to study/do well in school. Well it's really all because of effective time management. it's really up to you on what you feel like doing today or tomorrow. Having good time management skills is about the ability to control your life. As a teenager, a lot of procrastination happens, the feeling of laziness kicks in and giving up is sometimes our first option to escape from work/stress. Those are the easy way out of things in the short term but not for the long run.

So I kind of came up with a few ways to help you guys,
some of them which have helped me so let's just get into it!

1. SOCIAL NETWORKING
Most of us definitely are on the computer or on our phones most of the time. We can never seem to keep our eyes off the screens of our devices and we have this constant need to upload and update. But you have to remember, don't let it control you, you control it. I know some parents take their children's phones away and lock it up until they finish studying or like they take their computer away and confiscate all electronic devices but my parents have never done that. My mother always believed that I should learn how to control my usage on the internet by myself, she didn't have the time to reprimand me or bother to take my phone/laptop away. she just said that if she doesn't see good results on my report book, that's my problem in the future. I always seem to find myself taking out my phone every minute of the day and each time i come home from school, I run to my room and open my laptop. That sounds a bit scary yea like I'm addicted or smth but I've learnt to control that.

When i tell myself i need to study, i make sure i do. it took me awhile to get used to it because usually after an hour i would feel the need to check my phone so I tried several ways to prevent this. Keeping or locking my phone away from my sight didn't seem to work because I always feel insecure without my phone right next to me. So, I turn off all notifications on my phone so that it doesn't ring that includes whatsapp, twitter, instagram etc. I would place my phone right infront of me so i know that it's there and no one else has it. it just doesn't ring, so i don't feel the need to check my phone.

Try studying for one solid hour first and build it up slowly, so far, i can sit down four hours straight of solid studying. I think that it doesn't matter how much time you put into studying but the concentration and the focus that you have while studying!

2. AVOID OVERLOAD
Probably after reading this or even maybe not reading this, you feel like the urge to study cause something motivated you. well, you don't want to lose the motivation right? SO DO NOT OVERLOAD. That means, start out on small and simple. Don't suddenly just throw yourself into a book full of extremely hard problem sums or things that will demoralize you. Before being fast and efficient, you need to be slow and steady. Studying is like a race. You don't start at your maximum speed, you only do that at the end. Take short 10minutes break after every 1/2hours. Don't leave everything to the last minute. AVOID "eh I can do this later". Do tasks that have earlier deadlines first. These are just the basic guidelines in not wasting time.

3. LAZY DAYS
Have you ever woken up and you just feel like shit? Like you don't even want to get out of bed, you don't want to walk, you don't feel like moving a single bit. We all have those days but solving this problem is a bit difficult because I can't help you, you have to help yourself. Look at your parents, do they stop working just cause they feel tired or lazy? if they do there wouldn't be a house for you to live in, there wouldn't be food on the table, you wouldn't have an education to give you that higher opportunity to be successful in life. Stand up, splash water over yourself, make yourself a nice snack, sit down properly (not on your sofa, not on your bed) on a chair, open your book and start revising. On these lazy days i suggest you not to do any written work. You could just like open your textbook and start copying notes, trying to memorize some things, small and easy tasks that doesn't require your brain to use so much energy so at least you did something productive than nothing at all.

4. HAVE A GOAL
Before, i didn't believe having goal had to be necessary. I felt like i could never think of a goal and it was too time consuming to come up with one. But the fact is, my brain already had a goal in mind from the very beginning and I think it's the only thing that motivates me. I remember in sec 1, being in the worst class, we got looked down upon. I was infamous at the time so not only was I ugly but I was stupid too, that's what i felt. My dad used to tell me that others can't say anything to someone who is smarter than them. I didn't believe it but I'm starting to right now. I worked hard, I moved up a few classes so I would be in a better environment for myself. I didn't want to be known as that girl who is just like every other blogger. I didn't want to be sterotyped into the "pretty, bimbo bitch". So whenever I study, i tell myself that I don't want to give people that reason to say I'm stupid or not smart and all i care about is my looks, fashion and hair or smth. I work hard for myself to be a better person, giving people one less reason to make me feel bad about myself. So that's my story, so what's yours? Create your goal, be who you want to be, be who you want people to see you as.

STUDY TIPS?
-make your own notes; it'll be easier to memorize in your own writing and words
-revise every day what the teacher has taught you; it will become a good habit just like how you wake up in the morning and brush your teeth. Every day you brush your teeth so it's like a daily routine and it gets stuck in your head better
-revise a subject every week
-make sure you have everything prepared before sitting down to study; don't get up half way to take food or drinks or anything else. Make sure it's already in your reach so that you don't waste time.
-file everything neatly; so that it'll be easier to find your things and it doesn't require you to waste time in finding notes that you may have lost or anything.
-try to have individual files for each of your subjects

DO NOT WASTE A SINGLE MINUTE ON THINGS THAT DO NOT NEED TO BE DONE.
Don't waste time on people that don't appreciate you, don't waste time on irrelevant things, don't waste time thinking on stuff that will distract you away from yourself. Don't get involved in things that will make you feel moody cause that will just make you not feel like studying even more. If you want to go out, plan to go out before hand so that you know you're not going to study on that day and you have to allocate another time to study.

That's all I have so far and if i can think of anymore things to write I will definitely update this.

GOOD LUCK! xx
